In my classroom, my students and I will follow the path of conscious discipline, brain-based learning, and cooperative learning. I believe that students should be provided with choice when it comes to their education and that lessons should be differentiated to meet every students individual learning needs. Classroom management should be proactive.
The steps provided by Becky Bailey in Conscious Discipline will allow me to model composure, assertiveness, encouragement, choice, empathy, and consequences to students in a proper way.
Jensen's Teaching with the Brain in Mind, will also allow me to understand the complexity of a students' brain and how it works. Also, Jensen has taught me that students' have a variety of learning styles such as auditory, visual, kinesthetic, and tactile. In my class, I will be sure to implement a variety of lessons that include different learning modalities and I will be sure to implement brain breaks within each lesson so my students do not lose interest.
I will be sure to also implement Kagan Cooperative Learning Strategies to provide an engaging and active classroom. It is important for the students' in my classroom to socialize and have a positive relationship with one another.

I BELIEVE!
I believe inENCOURAGEMENT.Encouragement is such a powerful tool to use in the classroom because it not only creates a sense of belonging for each student, but it also creates a safe and positive learning environment.
I believe in ENGAGEMENT. When students are actively engaged in learning and can make meaningful connections between the content and personal experiences, learning is most likely to occur. In my classroom, I will provide students with opportunities to explore and discover meaningful learning experiences.
I believe in RELATIONSHIPS. It is crucial for a teacher to build positive relationships with each and every one of their students, which in return creates a positive learning atmosphere in the classroom.
I believe in STUDENT GROWTH. Every student must be allowed mistakes. However, I believe it is a teachers job to scaffold a students next decision to ensure they can correct their mistakes.
I believe in PLAY. For students to actively learn in early childhood classrooms, free play must be implemented. Benefits of free play include problem-solving skills, conflict negotiation, social-emotional growth, and collaboration skills. These are important skills that students will need to use throughout their lifetime.
